• Preparing for hospitalisation

We suggest that you tell your child that he/she will be coming into hospital a few days beforehand. In a simple way try and explain what the operation is for and that they will have a special hospital sleep whilst it is done. Doctors and nurses will be with them all the time. If you are anxious, try not to let your child see as it, as this may be upsetting to them.

Reassure your child that you will be staying in hospital with them. Allow plenty of time to let your child express how they feel about hospitalisation. Play schools, schools or the library may have books and games to help prepare your child.
