After Surgery

After the operation your child will be placed in the recovery room and monitored by a member of the theatre team until he/she is awake. Once your child is awake the paediatric nurse and you can collect your child and return to the ward.

Children react in different ways post anaesthetic – some remain drowsy, some are bright and alert and some can be tearful or even cross.

After surgeryOnce back on the ward your child can have a drink and later the food they ordered which can be a sandwich or light meal.

The nurses will record your child’s pulse and breathing rates after the operation. It will be useful for the nurse to know if you have any family words for pain or how you offer comfort or relief at home.
